Description

Warhead: Tandem HEAT
Warhead weight: 14 kg
Maximum range: 12,700 m
Guidance system: Laser beam riding

The Type 09 is a laser-guided anti-tank guided missile developed by Yongsheng Heavy Machinery Industries. First tested in early 2007 and commissioned in late 2009, it is a successor to the Type 86 anti-tank guided missile and was designed as an all-weather missile that could defeat armored units equipped with advanced armor protection. Like its predecessor, the missile can be deployed from an armored fighting vehicle, helicopter, or a tripod with a guidance box.

Stored in a glass-reinforced plastic tube, which also acts as its launcher, the missile has a maximum speed of 412 m/s and a length of 2.06 m. An automatic all-weather day/night electro-optical sight is provided for target sighting and the missile is supported by a laser beam channel for missile control, a laser rangefinder, an automatic target tracking unit, a digital computer and a system for stabilization and aiming the sighting and beam channels. The automatic sight provides for target detection and identification, as well as automatic target tracking and missile guidance. The guided missile consists of a tandem-charge high-explosive anti-tank warhead fitted with a contact and a proximity fuze, control electronics, a motor and laser detector.

The missile laser beam control system provides for its precise guidance owing to data transmission to the missile in the course of its launch. The missile control system has high jamming immunity because its receiver faces the carrier, thereby protecting it from jamming signals. A high pinpoint target hit probability is provided by the automatic target tracking system and highly accurate missile control system that makes allowance for changes in the parameters of the carrier and the target in the course of firing.
